A great photo of our Badger hanging basket bracket in situ, complete with beautiful basket of winter flowers. The design features a Badger stood amongst Fern undergrowth; a wonderful gift for a nature lover or gardener. The horizintal arm of the bracket is forged by hand in our coal forge from 10mm square bar so is more than capable of taking the weight of a large, watered basket. Or range of hanging basket brackets can be found here, and we’re always up for creating new designs so contact us with your ideas! Below is a photo of a scroll being hand forged for a swinging sign; it’s not for a hanging basket bracket but the process is the same.
We’ve just created this metal Fox silhouette as a piece of garden art. The Fox profile is laser cut from 3mm steel, and has chunky 12mm round bar legs welded to the base so it can be securely fixed into the ground without risk of falling over. We could cut any animal to any size as a piece of metal garden art, and can personalise the design to whatever extent your imagination allows! They are electroplated with zinc to protect against rust, and finished in a durable matt black powder coat so will look great for many years to come. A wonderful gift for a nature lover! This week I’ve been working on a few bespoke weathervane designs, including a Bentley Continental Fastback, and a group of three Barn Owls, as shown above. I began by drawing 5 or 6 different Owls using my graphics pen, and selecting the three that fitted together best. I love how distinctive Barn Owl faces are; this will make a fantastic weathervane when the design is finished! The only problem I have with it is in highlighting the features of the face – this part of the design looks very delicate so I’ll have to thicken these lines without affecting the look of it, or it won’t be practical to cut in steel. Initially I had thought that the 3rd Owl should be a baby, but they are such fluffy little things, when I try to draw one in silhouette they end up looking like a bit of a mishapen blob! I’ve sent a couple of initial weathervane designs to the customer, so he can give some feedback and we can make any alterations before coming up with the final design. We look forward to having another owl weathervane design to add to our existing owl and moon weathervane and owl hunting weathervane designs.
I’ve just finished painting this beautiful piece of laser cut wall art. The idea of the circle is that it represents the sun, with the birds flying in front of it. As standard this piece would be powder coated black, showing the Swallows silhouetted against the sun, but here I’ve painted the birds in full colour. I love painting swallows as they are so pretty! This piece of wall art could be mounted in a living room or garden; the finish is durable and hardwearing enough to withstand the British weather. One of our best selling weathervanes features three swallows; it’s lovely to have a reminder of them once they have migrated south for winter. We have even done a couple of variations on this theme for customers, with the swallows flying over an oak tree and a weathervane with the swallows flying over terraced rooftops.
We’ve just had this photo of our Swallows weathervane emailed in by the customer. Though she chose to have no letter bars when ordering the weathervane, it’s such a great photo I thought it was worth posting. I love how the bright blue sky makes the birds’ markings stand out, the laser cut design is very distinctively Swallows. One of our more popular weathervanes!
